Jon Jagger will do some live coding and demonstrate some interesting traits of C++ and STL. The actual presentation does not start until 1830, but please arrive early for socializing and perhaps something to eat before we start. The meeting is at a restaurant where they serve excellent Chinese food. After the meeting, some of us will move down to Bilabong for more beer and C++ discussions.

James Perrett will discuss:

Singleton and Observer: When and why these patterns can be problematic in C++ and possible alternative solutions.

The following issues will be discussed:

* Typical ways of implementing the patterns
* Problems with the patterns
* Alternatives

There will be lots of live coding!

I have found an excellent place to host the next C++ meeting. It is a quiet and separate part of a Chinese restaurant. They do of course have cold beer, but you may also want to come early to order a chop suey, satay, gongbao or something else... I will arrive at 1730 to eat my dinner.

James Perrett will give a talk about the pros and cons of the Observer and Singleton patterns. Olve Maudal will demonstrate some C++ idioms by example. There will be a lot of online coding (bring your flamethrower). Also, note that the doors open at 1800, please join us for a beer and possibly some food before the meeting.

Please invite other C++ gurus to OCPPUG. Visit www.ocppug.org

Dietmar Kuehl will give a talk about the underlying memory model in C++ and how this relates to the use of low-level facilities like atomic operations, thread synchronization primitives, and higher-level thread building blocks. This time we meet at one of Oslo's best indian restaurants, where we get papadums and Kingfisher during the talk and indian curry will be served just after the presentation. We plan to finish the event around 2000, but then I guess some of us will go down to Aker Brygge to continue discussions about C++ and multi-threading.

Michael Feathers will give a talk about writing testable C++. He will present examples of C++ code that is hard to test and C++ code that is easy to test. He will also show C++ language idioms and best practices that must be reconsidered and revisited when testing is taken seriously.

Boost is a portable C++ source libraries developed by many of the recognized gurus in the C++ world. The idea is to provide reference implementations of something that might be suitable for C++ standardization. Several Boost libraries have already made it into TR1, and more are being proposed into TR2, so it is fair to say that a lot of the stuff that you find in Boost today might eventually end up as being part of a C++ standard tomorrow.

Kevlin Henney will present some of his ideas around Boost and I am sure that he will also fire up his editor and write some code...

The meeting will be in the cellar of Bilabong (Bogstadveien 53) close to Majorstua underground station. We start at 1900, but feel free to arrive early, they serve excellent burgers at Bilabong. Kevlin and I will probably be there from 1800 to have something to eat, and you are more than welcome to join us. The formal part of the meetup is finished around 2100, but we hope many will stay behind for a beer or two.

The new C++ standard (C++0x) is expected to be introduced in 2009 and it includes several additions to the core language and lots of extensions to the C++ standard library.

In the first meetup for Oslo C++ User Group (www.ocppug.org) we will focus on C++0x. Olve Maudal will do a quick and dirty introduction to C++0x. Einar Otto Stangvik will discuss threading and concurrency support in C++0x. Terje Slettebų will dig into "Concepts" - a mechanism for codifying the interface that a template parameter must meet. There will be plenty of time for discussions between the presentations as the actual presentations are just 10 to 20 minutes long.

The formal part of the meetup is finished around 2100, but we hope many will stay behind for a beer or two so that we can get to know each other.
